my approach:
As an immigrant, my approach to therapy is deeply informed by my own experience of navigating different cultures, systems, and relationships. I understand that living between cultures can be both enriching and complex. Balancing family expectations, cultural values, intergenerational differences, language barriers, and the process of adapting to a new environment can sometimes leave people feeling isolated, misunderstood, or caught between worlds. I am especially passionate about working with Asian individuals, immigrants, international students, and those navigating multicultural identities. My goal is to create a space where you don't have to explain or justify your experiences. Instead, therapy can be a place to explore your story with curiosity, compassion, and cultural understanding, while deepening your connection to yourself and your values. Outside of the therapy room, you'll likely find me running, exploring Chicago's neighborhoods and coffee shops, or spending time journaling and reflecting. I believe that caring for ourselves can take many forms, and I enjoy helping clients discover what that looks like for them!
thoughts for new clients:
You don't have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Sometimes the first step is simply having a space where you can be fully yourself. I take a collaborative, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach to therapy. I recognize that our mental health is shaped not only by our individual experiences but also by our families, cultures, communities, and the systems we navigate. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, or questions about identity and belonging, I strive to create a space where your story is met with curiosity, compassion, and respect.
ABOUT ME:
I graduated from University of Northern Iowa in 2021 and started my journey as a community support specialist (CSS) at Thresholds. I have had the privilege of building meaningful relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds. The population that I have primarily served are adults and seniors with severe mental health disorders. This experience has deepened my passion for addressing societal issues and advocating for vulnerable populations. Every day, I witness the direct impacts of intergenerational poverty, trauma, violence, racism, and mental illness, and how they intersect in my clients' lives. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) at DePaul. As an intern at IIPC, I will support Carla with administrative tasks while gaining a deeper understanding of the administrative side of the work. My goal is to provide support and strengthen my ability to advocate as a clinician for those who cannot advocate for themselves
